The Study of Sustainable Life in Practice ─ The Case of Farmers Engaging in Natural Farming in Taitung

| Popis: | 107 With the rapid development of modern economic activities, people have been changed to approach to the large-scale manufacturing, consuming, and discarding lifestyles. That have resulted in the burden of environment, which caused environmental pollution and resource depletion. Thus, the sustainable development of human generations have been declined. However, in Taitung, there are a group of farmers who imply the idea of sustainable development by practicing sustainable farming activities. Therefore, this study will explore how the farmers’ ideas to be shaped; how the agricultural activities of natural farming to be balanced with the natural environment, and whether these farmers’ life style are influenced by the concept of natural farming. In this study, the qualitative approach method was used to explore the ideology and life behaviors of three farmers, who were chosen by the purposive sampling, and the data was collected by depth interviews, participant observation, and text analysis. The preliminary study results showed that the ideology about life, production and ecology of these farmers approach to natural farming principles which demonstrate the respect and abidance to nature. Through the practicing of natural farming, theses farmers keep the diversity of environment and ecological recycle system. Moreover, the behavior of environmental protection has been enhanced on their personal life. Thus, theses farmers could be the inspired cases of sustainable life development practitioners. This study expects to promote the concept of sustainable industries and lifestyles by introducing these farmers’ stories. It is hoped that their stories could become the highlight to attract more consumers and tourists, and could enhance the additional value of the farm. It is expected that more people could be inspired by the research cases to practice the sustainable idea in life, production and ecology. |
