Popis: | 107 On 20th May 1949 Taiwan promulgated its Martial Law and on the same day it triggered the so-called White Terror in which many people were jailed and suffered. On recalling the past disaster, there are many sad and touching scenes and stories emerged and told by the existing sufferers at the time how those executed victims faced their deaths on their last days.According to the memories recalled by the sufferers, they said besides the send-off songs they sang to pay their last respects, the attitude, mood and the mentality shown by those victims who were facing their immediate deaths were incredible and hard to believe. Many on their ways to the execution yard, would face their deaths boldly by shouting slogan aloud. This action irritated the executors and they were punished cruelly by stuffing cloth into their mouth, some victims’ jawbones were smashed by gunstock and some even after they were executed, their dead bodies were exposed under the sun on purpose. Whereas there were victims would preferred to face their deaths calmly and plainly, they would wake up, clean themselves and put on new tidy under wears and white shirt waiting for their time to come. Some when their names were called, would reposefully say thanks and shake the hands of the guards pleading them to well-treat other cell mates. This thesis will focus mainly on the songs sang by those survived sufferers and the testaments as well as the remembrances recalled by the political victims and their families to recapitulate the virtuous spirits of those victims at the time when they were facing the death. Judging from the meanings of the recorded send-off songs sang during the white terror period and with detail study and discussion enable to peep into the inner feelings of the executed victims’ attitudes in facing the death lay behind their life-stories. Further more, on understanding the space-time background and the environmental situations at that time, or the available and meaningful contents of the testaments of the victims, after making comparison to the philosophy of death, and by sorting and classifying executed victims’ reactions and their behaviors led to the an effective way to record and memorize the spirits of those victims and at the same time interpreted clearly the exact situation of Taiwan at martial law era.Consequently, seeing the testimonies witnessed by the existing sufferers and standing on their points of view, discussions were evolved how the dignified spirits of the sacrificed victims should be memorized and passed down to our children. Hopefully, such moving stories and the attitudes of life could become the priceless heritages of Taiwan and our social value could effectively be restored leading to a better future. |
