A Study on the Teachers' Problems and Solutions to Promote the Project for the Implementation of Remedial Instruction in Penghu Country Elementary Schools

This research is mainly specializing in the current situations and working problems that teachers encounter when conducting the remedial instruction project in the elementary school. To achieve the purposes of the research mentioned above, qualitative research methods were taken. Nine remedial instruction teachers in Penghu country were served as the research objects with conducting semi-structured interviews to collect, code, and analyze the data. The results of the research show: A.The current situation of the implementation of remedial instruction project: In terms of the school, it doesn’t convene and promote the learning support team and the remedial instruction teachers change frequently. However, it can use the Internet platform to simplify the procedures and deal with the evaluations of the quantitative form. The source of the remedial instruction teachers is qualified teachers from the school. The standardized teaching materials and homework are used, but students’ motivation is not enough. Besides, Using Instruction-technology-based testing is rare. B.The working problems when conducting the remedial instruction project: In the matter of the school, the workloads of the remedial instruction teachers are heavy, and the learning support team is not efficient. Also, conducting a remedial instruction class in both winter and summer vacations is not easy. At the same time, handling the evaluation and the implementation is hard. The remedial instruction teachers are unable to implement the adaptive instruction with the disturbance of the parents, the low motivation of the students, the ineffectiveness of the remedial instruction workshops, and the failure of using the testing system. C.The strategies to solutions of working problems when conducting remedial instruction program: As for the school, it can adjust the workloads and the teaching content of the remedial instruction teachers. In addition, the school can ask for the principal to host the meeting on Wednesday afternoon and plan the remedial project with the administrative staffs’ help in advance. At the same time, it can construct in-school Internet platform and hold a workshop about the Instruction-technology-based testing system. As for the teachers, they can adopt multiple adaptive learning strategies, set up a relationship with parents, and establish remedial instruction learning community. D.The suggestions of sloving working problems of remedial instruction project: Regarding the school, it can hold a workshop for the beginning remedial instruction teachers, clearly distribute the workloads to each office, and increase the hourly pay and reward. In the meantime, the school can strengthen the promotion and purchase teaching equipment. The evaluation can include observing system. Besides, the school can equalize both the quality and quantity and alter the testing way of the testing system and the quality of the test questions. With regard to teachers, they should plan a practical workshop and constantly enrich remedial instruction teaching materials.
