The author has been interested in handcrafts, one of which is needle felting. Needle felting artworks are characterized by coasters consisting of balls or by direct shaping of objects. Numerous pet keepers, particularly, collect the furs that fall from their pets to create fluffy balls using the method of needle felting to serve as inner sustenance and memory. The author also collected the furs of pets at home to create fluffy balls, from which to develop the inspiration for the creation of fluffy balls The author paid close attention to issues relevant to cats, and has been creating based on the topic of cats. In this creation, the material of fiber fluffy balls represents the soft touch of cats’ furs. This creation thus adopted mosaic as the technique of expression and used the combination of fluffy balls to create three-dimensional and two-dimensional images. In terms of the contents of this creation, the author hid cats in nature or merely showed a part of their body to concord with the nature of cats’ mystery and mastery of hiding themselves and to represent the integration of cats and the nature in the author’s mind, projecting the author’s mixed feelings about cats. This statement of creation aimed to understand the feasibility of the integration between soft sculpture and mosaic based on literature review and experimental tests. The artworks were presented in two phases, based on the aforementioned research. In the first phase, the mosaic creation of fluffy balls was styled in embossment and created using the accumulation of details and the intensification of the contrast between light and shadow. In the second phase, the integrative creation of mosaic and fluffy balls was in a semi-three-dimensional style using Styrofoam, and was represented using various methods to represent the shapes relevant to cats in the soft sculpture.
