In metal forming researches and engineering applications, it is often necessary to measure the actual friction coefficient of metal contact surface to evaluate the metal formability. The method used in this study is the tensile bending friction test. This method can effectively estimate the range of friction coefficient. However, most of the friction tests are a single direction drawing. Therefore, the prototype test machine is developed in this study. Friction coefficients were calculated from the measured drawing forces, contact angle, friction wheel radius and the relative speeds. The material used in this study was Al6016-T4. Firstly, the tensile test was carried out to obtain the material’s yield stress and flow stress the applied speed range for the friction tests is 20~40mm/s and the strip ends are fixed at an angle of 30°, 60°, or 90°. The surface roughness of the tested metal in different passes was measured the friction coefficients with a were compared the influence of heat treatment friction wheel and electroplating hard chromium wheel. Form the experimental results. It is known that the friction coefficient using a electroplating chromium wheel was about 30% smaller than that without electroplating chromium. The friction coefficient increases as the contact angle changes. The friction coefficients obtained can be used for the simulations in deep drawing and draw bending processes.
