Circularly polarized light (CPL) detection is required in various fields such as drug screening, security surveillance and quantum optics. In addition, recent progress in metamaterials further indicate the inevitable future of CPL detection. Typically, CPL photodetector needs broadband quarter waveplates and polarizers, imposing difficulties for integrated and flexible devices. In this thesis, using Polarization Gratings (PGs) as polarizing beam splitter, the incident light can be spited into two forward propagating and mutually orthogonal circularly polarized lights at an angle. This can be therefore used to investigate circular dichroism. In this thesis, with PGs, we propose a simple and innovative diffractive method for circular dichroism(CD) spectroscopy. Experimentally, using air and glass as samples, the CD spectrometer was calibrated and the result exhibit the functionality of the home made CD spectrometer. Moreover, we also investigate the CD value of CLC. The error of CD is discussed and evaluated as well.
