Taiwan is a multilingual society rich in multi-ethnic culture. Due to the influence of Language policy, the official language of Taiwan has been Japanese and Mandarin. Nowadays Taiwan locals are bilingual in Mandarin and Taiwanese. Therefore there are a lot of words borrowed from Mandarin in Taiwanese. The influence to the phonological system has been observed. The research sampled five episodes from a total of 285 episodes of the local drama “Fiery Thunderbolt” broadcasted in 2002. We transcribed each actors pronunciation, and found their pronunciation errors. Then, we calculated the number of errors in initials, finals and tones. Afterwards, we analyzed the relationship between the pronunciation mistakes and career life of the actors and actresses. Given the subtitle is written in Chinese, the actors have to translate their lines on the spot. In addition, the shortage of new vocabulary in Taiwanese has led to frequent code-switching. This study finds the actors full-fledged words in Taiwanese from the modal particles and the common slangs, showing the quality of the Taiwanese language. This study found that although the current local language is facing the danger of extinction. as long as the language environment is created fluency will be kept, and the revitalization of Taiwan could be expected.
