Popis: | 107 This thesis takes Wang Peiting’s parenting writing as a case study, examining it through the method of cultural studies with a focus on three aspects. First, Wang’s ideas about parenting and children education originated from the West, but it is brought to Taiwan by Wang Peiting’s work in the context of the post-martial law period in Taiwan. Under such circumstances, not only can Wang’s popularity be properly explained, but it is also important to examine the content of Wang’s parenting method and ways by which she presents it through her own specific narrative strategies. Second, Wang’s as a writer represents a specific image of motherhood through her writing, and this image, once personal and collective, should be situation in the context of Taiwan society especially concerning motherhood, gender politics and the soft authority of knowledge. Last, it is inevitable to rethink Wang’s writing through the lens of class. One the one hand, Wang’s writing reveals the habitus of the middle class and presents an ideal image of the middle class for identification; on the other hand, her readers by reading Wang’s work are able to imagine themselves in the same position. In addition to the experiences of being a mother myself, I, as a researcher, will employ theories of cultural studies such as cultural globalization, gender politics, discourse of motherhood, consumption and class to analyze Wang’s parenting writing and foreground its cultural significance. |
