The purpose of this thesis is to study the smart inverter of a grid connected photovoltaic (PV) system. The studies include a smart maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and an inverter with power regulation. First, the simulation environment for grid-connected PV system is built by using PSIM software package. And a 744W PV system constructed with Sanyo HIP-186BA19 solar modules are used as examples to finish the simulation of the MPPT. In order to make the photovoltaic module output the maximum power under different solar sunshine and ambient temperature, the thesis is based on the extension of matter element model and correlation function, the MPPT method can improve the dynamic response and steady state performance of the photovoltaic system. This thesis also uses a proportional-integral controller to adjust the DC voltage, output voltage and current of the inverter to stabilize the grid-connected point voltage at a root-mean-square value of 220V. Finally, the power control system of the smart inverter adds voltage-power control technology, and a proportional-integral controller is used to calculate the output power and absorb the reactive power of the smart inverter, improve the power quality of the mains and stabilize the mains voltage.
