POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION AND ITS RELATED FACTORS AMONG VIETNAMESE WOMEN

Background: Postnatal Depression is a non-psychotic disorder which often occurs 4 to 12 weeks or maximum 12 months after giving birth and this is the most common complication after childbirth, affecting both mothers and infants. In the world, there have been studies on the rate, symptoms and effects of postpartum depression for the purpose of developing prevention plans. In Vietnam, statistics in recent years, postnatal depression is one of the causes that significantly impacts on maternal and child health. Objectives: Identify the postnatal depression rates of postnatal depression and factors affecting women who delivered babies within 4 weeks to 6 months in Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and Pharmacy University Hospital. Method: Cross sectional descriptions determine the rate of postpartum depression and determine the factors influecing on women who delivered babies within 4 weeks to 6 months at the vaccination room at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Including 240 mothers postpartum agreeing to participate in the study. All of them had to finish 30 questions, including 10 questions of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and 20 questions of related factors. The data was analysed by Statistical Package for Social Sciences 22.0 (SPSS). The statistical method of my thesis is descriptive statistics, chi-square and linear correlation to find factors predictor. Result: The results of 240 postpartum mothers at vaccination room of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy's hospital. It was shown that the rate of postpartum depression was 20.8%. Of the 240 women with symptoms of postnatal depression, 11.7% said they had suicidal thoughts in the previous 7 days.
