The purpose of this study is to solve the researcher’s immediate and practical problems in reading instruction. The researcher applies cooperative learning into English reading instruction of junior high school and uses Kahoot! as an intervention to make teaching plans and as a tool to conduct activities in class. The action research is adopted for around six months (from October, 2018 to March, 2019), and the teaching application is put into practice for approximately six weeks (after the second mid-term examination, from December, 2018 to January, 2019). The subjects are 17 ninth-grade students. The researcher collects and analyzes data inclusive of learning materials and documents, photographing, in-class observation, informal interviews, and reflective journals, etc. The results of the action research are concluded as shown below: 1. The planning and practice of the teaching program: (a) Cooperative learning can reinforce students interaction with one another, and it can make English classes more sprightly and energetic. (b) Kahoot! enriches English classes and makes learning more interesting and attractive. 2. The difficulties during the teaching application and the countermeasures: (a) Sometimes students may distract from the focus of the class, so teachers need to direct them back to the learning activities and control the procedure and schedule. (b) The series of learning activities take time and may lead to the compression of time of the following learning activities. 3. Students’ transformation after the teaching application: (a) Students learn how to exchange ideas with others, listen to others, cooperate with others, and support others. (b) Students become more interested in English classes, more willing to participate, and more self-motivated and active in learning. Finally, the suggestions for instructors and further study are provided based on the results of the action research.
