There are diversified arts in decorative patterns that are expressed in the application of auspicious implication as well as taking pictures as the subjects. The methods of expression include painting, color painting, calligraphy, engraving, modeling, mosaic, clipping, assembly, etc. The author mixed the decorative patterns, consisting of ordinary flowers, insects, figures, and calligraphy, into various creations. In addition, the author has reviewed the achieved aesthetics against the concepts and explanations of personal creations. Regarding the composition and material, the creations are presented by traditional ink wash. The cultures and unique local characters are shown in the development of and changes in the decorative patterns. The traditional decorative patterns were inherited from the architecture styles of China during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The artisans were from Fujian and Guangdong while the materials were also shipped from China to Taiwan. Therefore, the styles were mainly influenced by Fujian and Guangdong architectures. As time has passed and with the importing of foreign culture, the architectures have gradually become the ones with Taiwan’s local features. This study is to elaborate the author's research motivation and purpose, the scope, and the limitations. In addition, the study also explores the implications of the decorative patterns on tradition. Praying for blessing is a generally and widely used composition. The beauty of decorative arts is expressed through creation, painting, and writing discourse.
