Generally speaking, the ability of university students to speak English in Taiwan still has a lot of room to improve. In particular, they have to get a lot of opportunities to open their mouth and listen to their own and others’ voice in the learning process. If there is a teaching assistant to help each student in the class, students’ speaking proficiency can be progressed more obviously. Then, using Robot-Assisted English Speaking can be a possible solution. Robot-Assisted English Speaking provides a workable solution. This study developed an educational robotic system as a private tutor to support individual learning in an English oral training course, called "English Oral Training Robot Tutor System, EOTRTS". When using a robot as a tutor, it is likely to reduce students' anxiety and improve their motivation because, more often than not, it is like a playmate figure. The current study focusses on using a robot to guide students to learn to read aloud and give individual feedback to help them improve their oral reading exercises in English. In this paper, it not only describes how a social robot NAO can have speech recognition, how QR code scanning is developed, and how NAO’s humanized limb sensors can allow interactive features to help students learn to read aloud English after class. The paper also shows how to connect the Cloud Computing - Speech to Text (STT) function module of the Google Cloud through Internet in NAO, and how to use the Word Error Rate (WER) to find out students’ reading errors and speed. Hopefully, implementing such a system can help learners reduce pronunciation errors and increase oral reading fluency in English. After six weeks of experimentation, students conducted word, reading and speaking tests in the first and sixth weeks, and gave students an English Learning Anxiety Questionnaire and an English Learning Motivation Questionnaire. Evaluate whether students can improve their learning outcomes and improve their motivation to learn English and reduce the anxiety of learning English after using EOTRTS. The System Acceptance Survey also shows that students who use EOTRTS study think they can deepen their impression of English textbook content. Most students like and are willing to recommend this system to others. Most students also find it interesting to interact with robots. This means that EOTRTS can really help students and interact well with students.
