A Study on the Effect of Morning Reading toward 8th Grade Students' Reading Attitude and Using of the Libraries at a High School in Pingtung

Popis: | 107 The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship and effectiveness between the morning reading implementing and 8th-grade students’ reading attitudes in Pingtung County complete high school. The study used a questionnaire and teacher-student interview as a research tool. The researcher collected 235 questionnaires from 255 students of Pingtung County High School. The measurements applied in this study included descriptive statistics, t-Test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Interviews with a random sample of two homeroom teachers and four students were used in this study. The interviews and the data statistics of the questionnaire were further analyzed to form conclusions of the study. The main findings are as follows: 1. In terms of reading attitudes and library use, significant differences exist between different genders. However, there are no significant differences in the students’ parnets’ gender and their homeroom teachers’ gender or major. 2.The morning reading implementing is significantly related to students’ reading attitude and has positive effects on students’ reading attitude. 3.The morning reading implementing is significantly related to students’ library use and have a positive effect on the frequency of students’ library use. 4.Students' reading attitude is significantly related to students’ library use and has a positive effect on students' library use. 5.The morning reading implementing is necessary and should be promoted even though there is still room for the improvement of the morning reading materials and reflection writing. 6.The effects of the morning reading implementing are significantly related to the school administrations. Through the research, the researcher encountered various thoughts and learned more about the real situation. Based on the conclusions from the research, some suggestions were provided for education administers, school principals and teachers and for further study. The effectiveness of the morning reading implementing would be increased through making reading a habit of the students under the hard work of the school administers and teachers and through enhancing students’ reading abilities from students’ active learning even after graduating from school.
