Popis: | 107 Participation provides opportunities for children to learn skills, form friendships, and define meanings in life. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often experience difficulties in social interaction and restrictions in daily participation. To gain a better understanding about participation patterns of preschool children with ASD, the aim of this study was to examine the differences and similarities in the patterns of participation in daily activities between preschool children with ASD and their age and gender-matched peers. The participants were the parents of 50 children 2 to 6 years of age, including 25 children with ASD and 25 age and gender-matched children with typical development (TD). The parents completed Chinese version of the Assessment of Preschool Children’s Participation (APCP-C) and Chinese version of the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI-C) by structured interview. The independent t tests were used to compare the scores for APCP-C between children with ASD and children with TD. Overall, children with ASD had lower mean scores of participation diversity and intensity in play, skill-development, and physical activities, especially in the area of play activities. The percentage of children who had experienced each activity were lower in most of the activities for children with ASD than that of children with TD. In conclusion, the participation of preschool children with ASD had lower participation in play area than the TD children. The percentages of preschool children with ASD that had experienced in the activities were mostly lower than the TD group. |
