The Study of Affecting Parental Choice of Junior High School for Elementary School Teachers in Luzhou , New Taipei City

The purpose of this study is to understand the reasons for choosing the schools that their children will be studying in by the teachers of elementary schools in Luzhou District, New Taipei city. The differences due to diversified backgrounds as well as the relative recommendations are also included in the study. In order to achieve the goal, the researcher had prepared "The Questionnaire of Reasons for Choosing the Schools for their Children by the Teachers of Elementary Schools in Luzhou District, New Taipei City" as the tool. Random sampling is used to randomly choose the teachers as the study subjects from five municipal elementary schools in Luzhou District of New Taipei City and they have children at the age of studying in elementary or high schools. There were total 225 questionnaires distributed and 186 received, with the return rate at 93.9%. The data analysis was carried out by descriptive statistics, Independent Sample T-test, and one-way analysis of variance. It was found from the study that the most important factor for teachers to choose the school is life convenience in the aspect of parents, while in the aspect of school, the most important factor is the professional educator. In addition, character education is the major factor that the teachers of the elementary schools in Luzhou will consider when they choose a school for their children. Apart from that, there's difference in choosing schools between teachers of elementary schools in Luzhou due to different backgrounds. Where the teachers have both son(s) and daughter(s), they value the performance of teaching, public relations, and the overall aspect of school more than the teachers who have only a son or sons. The teachers who have more than 3 children have more focus on the overall aspect of parents that those who have only 1 child. The teachers who chose schools within the school district value life convenience and the overall aspect of parents more than the teachers who chose schools outside of the school district; the teachers who chose private high schools or the schools outside the school district value the teaching performance more than the teachers choosing schools within the school district and this is the same result in terms of the curriculum program. According to the results, this study has come out a few recommendations for educational authorities, schools, and teachers. It is suggested that the educational authorities shall emphasize the professional development of the teachers, enhance the quality of their professionalism, provide sufficient education budget, and assist schools' operation and development. As for the schools, they shall develop in character education to form a good culture in the school, as well as develop the curriculum program and teaching with its own characteristics to attract the students within the school district. The teachers shall pursue the professional growth, strengthen the good interaction with students and their parents, enhance the quality of teaching, and plan the teaching with characteristic to meet diversified needs.
