Exploring the Purchase Intention of Electric Motorcycle: Based on the UTAUT2 Model

The annual sales volume of electric motorcycle, which is an alternative of gasoline motorcycle, has significant growth rate of 67% and 94% respectively for 2015 and 2016 after the new technology involved in it. According to the DGH (Directorate General of Highways), there are still 13,768,921 gasoline motorcycles by 2017, which shows great potential of electric motorcycle to develop the consumer market. With transfer from the numerous gasoline motorcycle consumers to the electric one, there will be considerable benefits to the environment, especially the reduction of carbon emission. This research intends to view the electric motorcycle as an innovative technology, and then uses the synthesis technology acceptance model, UTAUT2, as a comprehensive explanation of the factors that influence the purchase intention of electric motorcycle. Moreover, to make the explanation completely, this research adds self-efficacy, perceived risk and personal innovativeness in information technology as the precedent into the model. Results of this research found that the factors of performance expectancy, price value, hedonic motivation, social influence and personal innovativeness have positive effect on the purchase intention. Also, age and gender respectively play moderating roles on several relationships. Through the group analysis, this research found that different age or gender group would have partially different antecedents of purchase intention.
