Natural disasters, manufacturing defects, manmade mistakes or long-term operation are the reasons to cause the insulation deterioration of arrester. For real-time aging monitoring, this paper is to develop an on-line monitoring system of zinc oxide arrester. It will measure the electrical data of zinc oxide arrester, including total leakage current, resistive leakage current and phase difference. These data will used to be estimated the aging statue of zinc oxide arrester. When some aging signs appear, users can quickly know the aging status. It not only effectively prevent insulation failure, but also improve the security and stability of power supply. The system architecture can be mainly divided into two parts. The first part is the front measurement unit which composed of a sensor module and a junction box. It measures the leakage current with a high-precision current sensor and the voltage phase with an electric field sensor. The second part is back-end the diagnosis unit which composed of an industrial computer and a data acquisition module. Through the data acquisition module connected to the junction box, these analogy signals can be transited to digital signals as the input of LabVIEW program. Finally, the result will be displayed to the graphical interface.
