Popis: | 106 After the “911,” the United States used the concept of “strategic communication” to integrate relevant actions of various government departments to influence foreign audiences, further change their thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors, thereby supporting or recognizing the United States, and eventually improving the US national image. In view of this, China scholars advocate that they should develop their own “strategic communication” system and pass on the concept of “peaceful development” to the foreign public, so as to enhance the foreign public's understanding of China’s national policies and behaviors, in addition to improving the country’s image. It can create an environment conducive to the development of china in the international community. As the “Confucius Institute” is responsible for overseas Chinese language teaching in China and the dissemination of Chinese culture, it influences the understanding and recognition of foreign learners on the Chinese mainland. Its operational nature and goals have implemented the concept of “strategic communication.” However, this has also caused many Western scholars to hold skepticism about these institutes’ motives. Therefore, this article explores the operation of the “Confucius Institute” through China’s “strategic communication” concept. It finds that the Confucius Institute integrates the operations of related departments, promotes Chinese and Mandarin, influences learners and foreign publics, and changes their perception of China. Views, increase understanding and recognition, eventually reshape the country’s image, consolidate the right to speak internationally, and increase china’s soft power. |
