Implementation of a Predictive Speed Controller and a Rotor Position/Speed Estimator for Synchronous Reluctance Motors

This thesis investigates the controller design and rotor angle/speed estimating method for synchronous reluctance motors. First, the structure, characteristics, and mathematical model of the synchronous reluctance motor are discussed. Then, a predictive controller is investigated for a closed-loop speed control system. The predictive controller can improve the transient responses and load disturbance responses. After that, a state estimator is used to estimate rotor angle/speed. In addition, a pole-assignment technique is used to obtain similar dynamic responses of the state estimator at different speeds and loads. A 32-bit digital signal processor, type TMS-320F-28335, is used to execute the estimator and controller, and achieve a closed-loop fully digital synchronous reluctance motor drive system. As a result, the hardware circuit is simple. Experimental results validate the correctness and feasibility.
