There are more than 7.5 billion egg production in Taiwan per year. The total value has exceeded 1.89 billion dollars, accounting for 11.5% of the production value of livestock and poultry products. For sure, the layer is one of the most important livestock and poultry industry for rural communities. It is also the essential source of protein and contribute to improving the family diet in Taiwan. In Taiwan, the trading mode of egg marketing is controlled by the egg traders, who buy all the eggs from producers, which called the “all-inclusive underwriting system”. Egg farmers use plastic egg baskets provided by egg traders or washing plants to load their eggs and transport them by egg trucks. The feces and bacteria that remain on the shells and baskets will very likely increase the probability of spreading Avian Influenza or other harmful diseases for consumers. Therefore, most advanced countries have adopted the egg washing procedures into their egg production systems. In order to keep up with the advanced countries, the Council of Agriculture announced the full promotion of the egg washing policy in 2017. The proportion of domestic egg washing is approximately 50% of the total egg production. In order to accelerate the implementation of the policy, Council of Agriculture encourages poultry producers to cooperate and invest on regional scale. This study discusses the potential location of the regional egg-washing logistics center through the transportation programming model to achieve the lowest cost and the highest efficiency goal. The results can be used by the government to provide policy guidelines, as well as by the egg washing industry as a reference for site selection.
