Due to the recent increase of the elderly population in countries around the world, it has become more and more important to ensure a safe housing environment. According to the Fire Department of the Ministry of the Interior, the number of fire accidents in Taiwan has exceeded 30,000 in the year of 2017. The responsibility of preventing fires and stop them once occurred was usually placed to everyone. If those incidents can be effectively prevented in the early stage of the fire, the loss of life and property can greatly reduced. If the fire-fighting equipment is not good enough, there is no way to eliminate the problem in the early stage of the accident. Therefore, a highly reliable disaster prevention system is required, especially for the recent growth of intelligent buildings that depend more and more on the sensing and automatic reponse by the central control system. This study starts from reviewing the failure rate and maintenance conditions of parts through literature search, establishes the reliability models on the subsystems of the fire system and assembles into a complete system model. Secondly, referencing systems in ISO mechanical standards and Communication standards were studied and discuss for the reliability of the mechanical and electrical parts of the fire system. Furthermore, different reliability changes of each system under different environmental temperatures were studied, and benefits of preventive maintenance in improving the reliability were illustrated. The results and analysis of this research can be applied to the design and maintenance of disaster prevention systems for growing smart buildings in the future.
