A Study of Elementary School Senior Students' Knowledge, Attitude and Behavior towards Wetland Ecological Conservation in Kaohsiung City

The purpose of this study is to explore the elementary school senior students’ knowledge, attitude and behavior towards wetland ecological conservation. The study analyzed how different background variables would influence students’ wetland ecological knowledge, attitude and behavior. Furthermore, the study investigated the correlation among wetland’s ecological knowledge, attitude and conservation behavior. The study conducted questionnaire survey as research method. This study used the "senior students of the elementary school of wetland’s ecological conservation knowledge, attitude, and behavior questionnaire" as research tool when conducting the surveys. A total of 442 valid questionnaires was collected. The statistical methods of this study were descriptive statistics of SPSS for windows 19.0, chi-square test, t tests, single-factor variations data analysis, and Pearson product-moment correlation(α=.05). The main findings of this study were as follows: 1.Senior elementary school students in Kaohsiung obtained an average of 69% correctness on wetland ecological knowledge. There was a significant difference on wetland ecological knowledge between different grades and participation of school wetland activities. 2.Students’ wetland ecological conservation attitude were tended to be positive. Different school size and students’ participation in wetland activities had significant differences on ecological attitudes. 3.Senior students’ wetland ecological behavior was “sometimes do”. There was a significant difference on ecological behavior among different school size, grades and students’ participation of school wetland activities. 4.There was a significant correlation on senior student’s wetland ecological conservation knowledge, ecological conservation attitude and wetland ecological conservation behavior. Based on the conclusions of this study, students who have participated wetland ecological activities obtained active and positive attitudes and behaviors towards wetland ecological conservation. It is essential to establish a good study environment and teaching program on wetland ecological conservation, that would have a positive impact on elementary school students’ wetland ecological conservation attitude and behavior.
