Vocational Training Initiates the Dream, and Profession drives to Success---The Study on a Vocational Training Program in one Junior High School in Pingtung County

The purposes of this study aimed to understand the current implementations of a vocational training program (VTP) in one Junior High School in Pingtung County. The study adopted the method of the qualitative case study. It collected the data by deep interview, document analysis, and questionnaires. The ten interviewees were the students, the tutor, the program managers, and teachers who participate in the VTP. The subjects of questionnaires were the nineteen students and their parents involved in the VTP. The results of this study are summarized as follow. 1.Current Status of the VTP.: a. The school aims to provide opportunities for students to acquire vocational skills and to understand their vocational types. The committee of students’ recruitment and guidance decides which student is admitted, and the fund designed for a specific use is used exclusively. b. The school develops the curriculum based on the Vocational Training Curriculum Regulations. The teachers choose the diversified teaching materials, adjust their teaching methods based on students’ abilities, and use multiple assessments. c. The equipment of the classrooms and internship factories in the vocational schools are complete, and the schools can provide enough materials. d. The advisors and teachers work cooperatively to assist students. 2.Dilemma a. The vocational types were unable to meet the students’ needs. The student’s eighth grade advisors may prevent students participate in the VTP. And the delayed appropriation of the funds causes the problem of closing the account after verification. b. Not having enough subject teaching classes affect students’ progress rate. Students with low academic achievements and low learning motivation cause negative teaching attitude of the teachers. And the teachers of VTP. are difficult to hire. c. The vocational schools do not have enough special classrooms for junior high school students. d. Only the efforts of the advisors cannot improve students’ achievement. And the parents still have misunderstanding that the vocational schools do not emphasis on the students’ academic abilities. 3.Effectiveness: a. The students are satisfied with the following items: teachers’ teaching attitude, professional ability, teaching method, teaching material content, adequate class hours, and the gain of information about profession and vocational school. b. Students are satisfied with the teaching equipment, the safety and health of classroom environment. c. Students’ confidence and sense of achievement are promoted. They have more explicit career paths and good relationship with classmates and teachers. d. Students’ parents agree that the Vocational Training Program can improve their children’s learning, life, and career. Finally, based on the above research results, the suggestions are provided for related members participating vocational training program.
