Badai illustrated history under the framework of literature. Specifically, he wrote the ethnic novel sequences based on both historical and folkloric documents. These novels are the depiction of tribal culture, ethnic history, war and romance, which demonstrate his own historical interpretation. In this study, we would discuss the motif implications and artistic expression with the focus on The last queen, which is the first novel of Badai’s Pinuyumayan historical figure series, to demonstrate his historical interpretation and literary art. This study comprises five chapters as the following: The first chapter is introduction. The research motive and purpose, the literature review and discussion, the research scope and chapter structure of this study were described in the chapter. The second chapter is the historical materials of Badai novels. We inferred the background and themes of the night Badai’s current published novels based on the historical documents, and to show the. The third chapter is the motif implications of The last queen. In this chapter, we discussed the hidden meaning of The last queen and concluded to four motif implications, which are the political struggles among ethnic groups, the relationship between Taiwanese aborigines and Hans, collaboration and threat related to foreign regimes and the continuity and alteration of tribal culture. The fourth chapter is the artistic expressions of The last queen. We analyzed the character depiction, time-and-space narratives and language models with narratology and writing theory. The fifth chapter concluded the writing style of Badai’s The last queen and its impact on Taiwanese aboriginal literature.
