The importance of social welfare is getting higher and higher, and the proportion of government spending has also increased. This study examines the correlation between social welfare expenditure and overall economic variables, based on the data on the rate of economic growth, national GDP, unemployment rate, and Gini coefficient (per person) in social welfare expenditures and total economic variables between 2001 and 2016, ADF single root verification, Granger causality test, and multiple regression Models and other methods are used for empirical analysis. The empirical results of this study show that the economic growth rate, national GDP, unemployment rate, and Gini coefficient (per person) are all in a steady state time series after the ADF single test. After a simple regression model analysis, we found that the relationship between economic growth rate and social welfare expenditure is less significant. Therefore, the national GDP, unemployment rate and Gini coefficient (per person) are included in the multiple regression analysis. It is found that the national GDP and the Gini coefficient (per person) have a higher ability to explain social welfare expenditures. The GDP of the nationals and social welfare expenditures have a positive relationship, and the Gini coefficient (per person) and social welfare expenditures are negative in the same period.
