Research of Adults Ballet Learning Motivation

Popis: | 106 Given veriety genres of dance, ballet is the most systematic type of dance in the whole dancing education. In ballet, those movements and dancing postures are rigid restricted by specific aesthetics and regulations. A professional dancer need to have a built body, muscle endurance, coordination, balance, space awareness, accuracy and sense of time. Though it is such a difficult dance type, why do adults still love it and willing to learn it ? This study aims to explore the motivation of adult ballet learning, and to understand what kind of influence or change it will give to adults, and to explore the continuity of their learning. This study does qualitative research by having intense interviews with seven adults who studied ballet around 10 years with no balletic academy diploma and with two veteran instructors in balletic education. Refined and analyzed data those interviews collected, the major findings are summarized as follows: 1. The motivation for adults learning ballet:(1) To exercise and promote health.(2) Accept friend's and peer's influence.(3) The need for self-esteem.(4) Seeking knowledge.(5) Seeking beauty.(6) Self-realization. 2. The influence and change after adult learning ballet:(1) Affecting inner spirit and mind. (2) Change physical health and figure.(3) Improvement of physical ability. (4) Can comprehend by analogy.(5) The family change their viewpoints of dance. (6) Having incredible learning experiences. 3. Factors that affecting adults' continuous ballet learning. (1) To maintain health, fitness and figure.(2) Interested and fulfilled.(3) Family support and peer interaction.(4) Promoter's (teacher's) guide.(5) Adjusting and relieving pressure.(6) The pluralism of art and its cultivation.(7) For practical use. 4. Factors that affect adults' inability to continue ballet learning. (1) Study and work. (2) Physical conditions. (3) Family factors. (4) Teaching factors. (5) Learning environment and space.(6) The affinity of the ballet. Finally, based on the results of this study, the study gives some advices to the motivations for adult ballet learning, to instructors in balletic education, and also to follow-up researchers. |
