The Influence of Participation Motivation on the Role and Function of Volunteer Service in the Elementary School--A Case Study of an Elementary School in Shulin District, New Taipei City

The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that influence motivational effects on the role and function of volunteer services in primary schools. In this study, the qualitative research method was based on the research scope of a primary school in Su-Lin district of New Taipei City. 12 volunteers were interviewed for the study. From the three aspects of “self-serving motive”,“altruistic motive”, and “social motive”, through relevant literature analysis and in deeply interviews with volunteers, and finally collating the results, we explored the influence of school volunteer motivation on their roles and functions. This will provide a reference for the school to recruit volunteers and promote volunteer services. According to the analysis of the interview results, the study found that the members of a small volunteer in Su-Lin district of New Taipei City are mostly from the parents' volunteers. The motives for participation mainly vary from person to person, but in the case of self-motivated motives always because their children studying in this school; volunteers choose service roles. In the case of altruistic motives, reasons why volunteers choose service roles and functions is that the volunteers in the service group are not enough. They have the thoughts of helping others, social motivation also increases with continue to serve; the roles and functions of volunteers and the continuous service influence each other, not only the body, life, and psychology. The service schools of the research schools have all participated in the service and have given service opportunities to new volunteers so that new volunteers will have service motivation. Based on the above conclusions, suggestions are made on the status of research schools and volunteers. It is hoped make that schools can attach importance to volunteers and promote the motivation of volunteers' continuous service. And school volunteers can pass on service experience and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
