There are more than 20,000 cases of out of hospital cardiac arrest each year in Taiwan. The families of the patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest usually go to the emergency room of the hospitals under non-expectation and no psychological preparation. Most of the medical personnel of the emergency room pay the attention to the patients’ condition, and are subsequently easy to ignore the needs of their families. As a result, the families may easily happen misunderstanding and distrust to the medical personnel in advance. It is necessary for the medical personnel of emergency room to understand the family's feelings and family needs and related factors. SPSS 22.0 software package for statistical analysis were used, and data were analyzed by descriptive statistics including percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviations, and inferential statistics including Pearson’s product-moment correlation, Wilcoxon rank sum test, t-test, and multiple regression. Results: The problem-focused coping in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patient's family is used more than emotion-focused coping. The most important needs of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patient's family are “communication and information” and followed by “support needs” and “participation in care”. “comfort” is the least important. Family education level and marital status are the important factors affecting the coping. The outcomes of first aid, patient age, gender of family, and problem-focused coping are the important factors affecting the family needs.
