Aerobic Cometabolic Biodegradation of Chlorinated Ethenes with Different Primary Substrates

Popis: | 106 This research was conducted with two groups of batch tests. The batch tests focused on the study of the effectiveness of aerobic cometabolic oxidation and aerobic metabolic degradation of cDCE, and also the effectiveness of aerobic cometabolic biodegradatiom of cDCE and TCE when cDCE and TCE were co-existence. The results indicated that the biodegradation of cDCE by methane oxidizing bacteria would be inhibited when the concentration of cDCE was higher than 5 mg/L. The removal efficiency of cDCE by toluene oxidizing bacteria would be inhibited when the concentration of cDCE was higher than 10 mg/L. The results of aerobic cometabolic oxidation and aerobic metabolic could be expressed as Monod equation. The results of another batch tests indicated that the removal efficiency of cDCE by methane oxidizing bacteria or toluene oxidizing bacteria was better than that of TCE when cDCE and TCE were co-existence. In addition, the presence of TCE didn’t inhibit the biodegradation of cDCE, but TCE showed inhibition effects apparently on the biodegradation of cDCE, especially when cDCE was in higher concentrations. |
