An Analysis of Success Factors of Crowdfunding: A Case Study of Taiwan and Japan Crowdfunding Platforms

In recent years, Crowdfunding has become more and more prevalent for the young people, and it is also popular in Taiwan and Japan. The reason why crowdfunding used by more and more people, because it uses the convenience and immediacy of the Internet and the object of fundraising target is the general public, and crowdfunding is much easier than borrowing money from banks in the past. However, according to the Kickstarter which one of the largest crowdfunding platforms, the project that successfully raises funds only accounts for 33% of the total projects, success rate is not high. This study mainly discusses what kinds of factors may be the key to influence the crowdfunding successes or not. The research samples are the two countries' crowdfunding platforms, Taiwan’s platforms: Zeczec, FlyingV, and Japan's platforms: Campfire and Makuake. Finally we have 323 samples of information on the crowdfunding platform website, and we analyzed the data with Logistic regression. The analysis found that there have ten factors will affect the success of crowdfunding( E.g. The count of rewards, Media Richness, Popularity on social media, the other official website, Funding reciprocity). All of them have a significant influence on the success of the project. In the end, this study hopes to help the crowdfunding funder who wants to fund money in crowdfunding platforms,help then to improve their project.
