In this study, we utilized a Black Soldier Fly (BSF) shell for the processing of chitosan (CS), which was used as filler in electrospun fiber -based materials. Chitosan powder (CSP) was obtained by in-water grinding. The structural, water resistance, antibacterial activity, and mechanical properties of electrospun fiber prepared from the Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) and chitosan powder blend (PHA/CSP) fiber were studied. The acrylic acid-grafted PHA (PHA-g-AA) and CSP the were used to enhance the desired characteristics of these electrospun fiber. The chemical reaction, occurred between CS and PHA-g-AA, as shown by FTIR analyses, and resulted in significantly different structures in the fiber. The PHA-g-AA/CSP electrospun fiber membranes had better mechanical properties than the PHA/CSP electrospun fiber membrane. This effect was attributed to greater compatibility between the grafted PHA and CSP. The water resistance of the PHA-g-AA/CSP electrospun fiber was greater than that of the PHA/ASP electrospun fiber. Electrospun fiber of PHA-g-AA or PHA containing CSP had better antibacterial activity.
