Numerical investigation of the effect of thermal and fluid parameters on the performance of the plate methanol steam reformer

Popis: | 106 Technology of hydrogen production from the plate-type methanol steam reformer is widely applied to the miniature fuel cells for the power sources of the portable electric devices. In this thesis, FLUENT software was used to establish a three-dimensional numerical model of plate-type methanol steam reformer, and then these numerical simulations and analyses were performed to investigate the effects of wall-heated temperature, steam-to-carbon ratio (S/C), and catalyst layer thickness on the heat/mass transfer, methanol conversion rate, and hydrogen-generated performance in the reformer. The numerical results show that, the methanol conversion rate and the mass fraction of hydrogen production from the reformer increase as the wall-heated temperature increases. However, the methanol conversion rate and the mass fraction of hydrogen production from the reformer decrease with increasing the steam-to-carbon ratio. In addition, the methanol conversion rate and the mass fraction of hydrogen production from the reformer increase with an increase in the thickness of catalyst layer. |
