Although the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) has become one of the main technologies of today's navigation and positioning systems, the navigation in GNSS-denied environment, like indoor facilities or built-up areas and leafy forests, usually has difficulty maintaining accurate positioning information because of GNSS signal blockage and multipath. Therefore, the Indoor Positioning System (IPS) is promoted recently. IPS can extend the positioning areas even if lack of the satellite signals, and allow people to keep track of the required location information. The main objective of this study is to provide the low-cost indoor positioning schemes. Utilizing mobile phone sensors such as accelerometers and gyroscopes, experimental designs and results analysis were performed by using the algorithm of pedestrian dead reckoning and supplemented with indoor map information. In this study, two different path type buildings were used to be the experiment areas. According to the experimental results, the average RMS of the average path closure in this study is approximately 0.6 meters, which is a better than 90% improvement compared with the error of the uncorrected closure. Comparing with the cumulative error pass rate of positioning points, it is found that the results of the corrected PDR positioning can achieve a 100% pass rate when the positioning error is about 2 meters. Also, the results has a 90% pass rate when the positioning error is 0.5 meters. The above prove that this research has successfully used smart mobile phones in combination with known map information to improve the accuracy of indoor positioning, and provide schemes for the related indoor positioning, mapping, and extended applications.
