A Study of Teachers Participated in a Remedial Program in Elementary Schools

The purpose of this study is to understand the experience and reflections of teachers involved in remedial instruction. This is a qualitative interviews research. The object of the study is Sunshine Hope Primary School's remedial teachers. Semi-structured interview method and participant observation were used to data collection. The researcher interviewed five teachers and understood the experience and reflections of teachers involved in remedial instruction. The results were listed as following: 1. The motivations of remedial teachers are thankfulness and feedback. The reasons of participation are dedicated to teaching beliefs. 2. The teaching philosophies of remedial teachers are self-improvement, practice what you preach, life care, character conservation, creative thinking, and happy learning. 3. The remedial teachers faced the questions would empathize the students, listen to the students, accompany the students, and figure out the problems then solve them. 4. The remedial teachers’ progress of adaptation are from the novice into the profession; from fearfully into confidently. 5. The remedial teachers’ self-reflections are the students’ character is more important than achievement; the students learned the lessons are better than finished the course; creative guidance is better than force-feed teaching; and the teachers accompany instead of teachers presentation. Finally, according to the results, some suggestions offered to civil society, administrative units, remedial teachers, and follow-up researchers.
