Popis: | 105 The ageing of population is poised to emerge as a serious global problem. In Taiwan, fertility decline and rapid increase of elderly population developed a rapidly aging society in the late 20th century. Elderly people often suffer severe physical and psychological impact which makes them feel the need of love and intimacy support. However, little qualitative research has conducted on the relationship between residential environment and health although environmental (place-person) networks are very important issues for supporting the well-being of old people. The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of community dwelling-elderly on the residence attachment Participants over the age of 65 were recruited from community in New Taipei City. The data were collected through individual interviews, including 20 informants, 71.2 years of age on average, followed by theoretical sampling. Grounded theory guided the methodology and data analysis. The trustworthiness of the data were examined by Lincola & Guba principles. This study revealed that the elderly living in the community have place attachment including the senses of dependence, identity, time, and expectancy. Place identity indicated that the community-dwelling elders regarded themselves as a part of residential place which was also represented for these populations and is related to belongingness and integration. Place dependence indicated that elderly and environment are reciprocally related. Environment provided daily requirements, and elderly can develop a better living quality of communities. Sense of time is composed of life process, cycles and different stages in addition to life experience-based nest building and accumulation of place significance. Sense of expectancy includes elder’s expectation of community environment and self-conforming community environment. These four senses of attachment are living and three-dimensional and can dynamically change with environment to create self-value, significance, safety and satisfaction. The four senses are named as “four-leaf clover” theory due to the similarity of leaves of clovers and can be used to depict the place attachment of elderly living in the community. This study suggests to use “four-leaf clover” theory to evaluate the place attachment of elderly. In future studies, we should adopt quantitative research methods to understand the relationship of elder’s mental health and environment. Qualitative study should deeply inspect the influence factors to analyze the cultural and ethic difference between Taiwan and abroad areas. In the future establishment of elderly and friendly community, we should not only provide local activity but also put emphasis on elder’s feeling, expectation and self-awareness. We also need to integrate the medical and social-welfare resource for improving the healthy status of elderly to achieve the goal of ”Aging in Place”.
