The purpose of this study is to realize the connotation and formation of parent's parenting empowerment. By means of the dual-track intervention which includes the authoritative play therapy on children and the parents’ weekly participation in parent consultation. The discovery-oriented process study method is used for the investigation. The results of the study are listed as below: The parents’ awareness of the connotation of parenting empowerment is composed of four aspects: 1. Intrapersonal aspect: the parents are aware of the empowerment factors and the connotations of “positive parental feelings”, “ the feeling of control and empowerment from regaining the parental roles” and “the feeling of hope in future”, as well as the connotation of such factors; 2. Interactional aspect: the parents form such empowerment factors as “the increased awareness of the formation of their parental role obstacles and the related cognitions”, “ better understanding on the children”, “ awareness of the influence of the mode of authoritative play therapy ”as well as the connotation of such factors; 3.Behavioral aspect: the parents form such empowerment factors as “ adjustment of core family parental behaviors ”, “ other practices of ‘ incorporating others related into partnership to help the children’” and “ displaying self-caring of the parenting role” as well as the connotation of such factors; 4. Spiritual aspect: parents are able to combine spiritual elements and resources in their parental life to create a more comprehensive and stable support for the parents and the children. These four aspects are interlocked and interact with each other, leading the overall system into a positive cycle of empowerment. The forming factors and connotations of parents’ awareness of parenting empowerment include: under the “ assisting mechanism with the mode of authoritative play therapy”, the parents perceived the “ anchoring assistance of the psychological assessment process” and the “ dual complementary assistance through combination of the play therapy on children and the parent consultation’; meanwhile the parents also “ felt the confidence and assurance from the assistance of the overall system and the prudent and professional mechanism” as well as the “enforced empowering effect of the spiritual power combined with the parent consultation”. On the other hand, during interactions with the counselor, the parents came to feel their parenting empowerment formed by the following “attitude and approaches of the authoritative game therapist”, namely: “give the children the space and chances to develop their self-awareness and provide them with channels for emotional release”, “ assist them in solving problems and turn to positive perspectives”, “ provide corrective emotional experiences with unconditional acceptance and highly emotional treatment”, “ cooperate with parents to develop parental targets appropriate for the children”, “assist in linking individuals to the whole to expand the systematic and macro cognition on the children”, “ help develop proper interactive parenting skills to ensure stable change of the children”, “ assign tasks and provide resources that could facilitate the perception or enforce the change” etc. Moreover, it is also found that “the parents’ own superior resources” and the “interlocked cycling effect of parenting empowerment at different layers” are also important factors for the formation of parenting empowerment. Finally, based on the finding, I present some concluding reflections and recommendations for mental health professionals and future researchers.
