THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN AUTOMATIC PCB QUALITY INSPECTION SYSTEM

This research aims to develop an automatic PCB quality inspection system. The human testing at the end of the circuit board production line will be replaced by the automatic inspection system. The primary developing items include the PCB convey mechanism, detection mechanism and quality differentiate mechanism. Here, the PLC(programmable logic controller) is adopted as a controller in the system. Firstly, Pro/E, an engineering drawing software, is used during the design stage. Secondly, the system's whole frame will be manufactured and improved by the factory's manufacturing process. The testing of PCB clamping, convey detecting, and positioning will be performed by manipulating the PLC to trigger various device of motor, cylinder and sensor receiving. The automatic PCB quality inspection system has been accomplished and tested. For the system's operation, the worker put the PCB on fixture board and then press the start bottom. The conveying mechanism will send the PCB to the testing location. The PCB will be set by positioning mechanism. Subsequently, the VR will drive the roller mechanism and PB switch push/pressure mechanism. With this, the PCB testing will be carried out by using the photosensitive resistor. Meanwhile, the PLC will be inspected by other detecting system. The inspected data will be fed back to the PLC. The PCB will be sent to next station when the inspection process is completed. According to the inspecting result, the PCB will be forward to fall into a good product tray or a bad product tray. Consequently, the time spent in a whole inspecting cycle is less than 30 seconds. This can meet the desired target time.
