Design of a Single-Phase Vienna Power Factor Correction System

Vienna rectifier generates 3-level voltage waveform at the input which allows for lower harmonic contents with smaller filters at the converter output. This thesis investigates a single-phase power factor correction dual-boost converter with Vienna rectifier topology as a DC source for motor drives. Small signal model of the single-phase Vienna rectifier is analyzed. A cascaded PI controller is designed based on the derived model for DC output voltage regulation. Simulations of the single-switch rectifier and the associated controllers are performed to validate good dynamic performance of the converter with PSIM. A 400 W Vienna rectifier with AC 55 V input and DC 300 V output is built for experimental verifications. The controller is implemented with a Texas Instruments TMS320F28335 digital signal processor. The experimental results are consistent with the simulation results.
