Hardware/Software Co-design and Implementation of High Performance CAN/FlexRay Gateway for In-Vehicle Network

In recent years, communication protocols for in-vehicle network (IVN) are consist of LIN, CAN, FlexRay protocols. Gateway system used in automotive device is as a conversion device between different electronic control units (ECUs). While more and more frames send to the gateway, performance of the gateway has become an important feature in order to convert message frames in the real time. In this thesis, we implement a CAN/FlexRay gateway in Hardware/Software(HW/SW) co-design methods on Xilinx ZedBoard. The CAN controller is implemented on ARM and FlexRay controller is implemented on FPGA, using AXI bus to integrate together. The Convert Module in proposed gateway is evaluated through HW/SW co-design method by cost function. In addition, we design and implement a transceiver PCB to connect between the proposed gateway and external CAN/FlexRay-based ECUs. Compared with CAN to FlexRay gateway based on MCU architecture, experimental results show that the proposed gateway can reduce 85.5% of average execution time, which is more suited for IVN.
