In recent years, as the advance on computing ability of mobile device, wireless communications and networking technology, it is convenient to acquire useful data by the sensors equipped on a mobile device. With the combination of mobile sensors and GPS, more and more interesting applications and research topics gradually emerge. This dissertation discusses the problems of processing spatial queries and synchronizing distributed shared data items in emerging mobile environments, such as Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs), Mobile Wireless Sensor Networks (MWSNs), and Mobile Peer-to-Peer Networks (MP2P), and explores the distributed techniques, the concept of safe-time, to propose decentralized approaches for dealing with above issues. Two approaches, Distributed Continuous k Nearest Neighbors Search (DCkNN) and Distributed Continuous Range-Skyline Query Processing (DCRSQ), are proposed to effectively process two kinds of spatial queries. From a network architectures standpoint, a method, Group-based Data-driven Consistency Management, is proposed for maintaining the data consistency issues in mobile environments. In addition, a new approach, Mobility-Aware Data Update Approach (MADU), is proposed to check and update the consistency of shared data items in a fully decentralized way. According to the simulation results, we can learn that the proposed decentralized approaches which consider the concept of safe-time can effectively process spatial queries and synchronize distributed data items on different mobile devices.
