Popis: | 105 This qualitative study explored the tacit competencies of the elderly educators who earned a “Special Award for Contributions to the Elderly Education” from the Ministry of Education in Taiwan. Data analysis was performed using the following four concepts: achievement motivation theory by McClelland, 16 Personality Factors Test by Cattell, the looking-glass self by Cooley, and the ideal and real selves by Rogers. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six award-winning elderly educators to determine the tacit competencies required in instructing the elderly education. This study shows that the award-winning elderly educators possess three tacit competencies. First, they have need for achievements, need for affiliation and desires to make contributions to the society. Second, their common personality traits include sociability, wise, stability, conscientious, independence, self-discipline, empathy and the ability to reflect and solve problems. Third, self-concept is established on the fulfilments of the elderly educators themselves and the respects from the others. That is to say, the achievement motivation of the elderly educators is derived from the pursuit of the meaning of life. The elderly educators own positive personality traits, and their inner strength shapes the self-concept among them. The elderly educators with the tacit competencies mentioned above tend to have comfortable interactions with the learners while teaching; furthermore, the ones who teach, learn as well. |
