Popis: | 105 Purpose:The present study was designed to examine the role of family support in the relationship of internet gaming addiction on depressive symptoms among junior high school students. Methods:This study used part of data set collected by Professor Huei-Chen Ko for the project on " The efficacy of preventive education for Internet addiction among junior high school students in Taiwan". The participants consisted of 1,136 students (580 boys, 556 girls). All the participants completed the questionnaires, including Internet gaming addiction scale, family support scale, depression subscale of SCL-90-R at time 1(T1) and at the four-mouth follow-up (T2). Results:The hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to examine the moderating effect of family support. The results showed that the interaction between the T1 internet gaming addiction score and the T1 family support score significantly predicted the T2 depression score after T1 depression score was controlled. Further analyses indicated that the T1 internet gaming addiction significantly predicted T2 depressive score only in the group with the lower T1 family support score, but not in the group with the middle or high family support group. Conclusion:This study suggested that family support moderates the effects of internet gaming addiction on depressive symptoms. Further studies should investigate the pathways of low family support make impact on depressive symptoms.
