Popis: | 105 This study targets students at a college located in Hualien, Taiwan. We examined their attitudes and behaviors toward environment, analyzed their disparities, and probed the correlation between their environmental attitudes and environmental behaviors. We sent out 395 questionnaires, and received 386 back. 325 were valid and 61 were invalid. We have summarized the findings and conclusions as follows: 1. These college students have positive attitudes toward the environment. Their average score was very high in environmental beliefs, yet the average score in environmental behaviors was much lower. As for range of their environmental behaviors, some students carry out actions to care for the environment regularly, some do it rarely, and others do it once in a while. In addition, these college students are more interested in taking financial actions, but less interested in carrying out civic actions. 2. Some factors did not affect their attitudes significantly toward the environment: gender; subject of study; number of years studying in college; ethnic group; living in an urban, rural or remote area; serving other students regularly as a recycling volunteer or not; participating as a recycling volunteer or not; and taking environmental protection classes or not. This college contained regular college students and community college students, two types of students which demonstrated significant differences in their environmental beliefs. Besides this, the locations of their hometowns also affected their environmental beliefs considerably. 3. As for their environmental behaviors, the student’s gender, residing in an urban, rural or remote area, serving other students regularly as a recycling volunteer or not, and the frequency of participation as a recycling volunteer, did not notably affect their environmental behaviors. Regardless of whether the students are regular college students or community college students, their academic department of study, the number of years studying in college, ethnic group, taking environmental classes or not, all these substantially affected their environmental behaviors. 4. Their environmental attitudes positively correlated with their environmental behaviors. Our findings and conclusions might be helpful for the college in planning their environmental education or designing their environmental course(s). We also wish to provide the opportunity for more future researches. |
