A Study of Effects of Multimedia - aided Instruction on Junior high school Students' Learning Quadratic Function Graphics

This research was to look into that if teachers utilize different teaching methods on students could lead to different learning attitudes and effects. Besides, based on different gender and talent, with different teaching methods, students would show variation on their learning attitudes and mathematics performances. The samples of this study were fifty four ninth-grade students from two classes in a junior high school in Kaohsiung. According to their grades from the first semester of ninth grade, samples were divide into low, mid, and high levels. Students will go through an eight classes, total two weeks experimental course. Before the course, both the Multimedia-aided Instruction and Traditional Instruction groups took a pre-test, called mathematics attitude scale. In one week after the course finished, the two groups will took a attitude post-test and mathematics achievement test, and the experimental group filled in a Multimedia-aided Learning Questionnaire. After the experimental teaching, the main findings of this study are summarized as follows: 1. There were significant interaction effects on students’ learning attitudes and mathematics performance between the teaching methods. Students with Multimedia-aided Instruction improve a lot compared to the Traditional Instruction. 2. On mathematics performance, the Mid level students with Multimedia-aided Instruction were significantly better than those with traditional teaching method. For the High and Low level students, however, the difference was insignificant. 3. On learning attitudes, the Mid level and Low level students with Multimedia-aided Instruction were significantly better than those with traditional teaching method. For the High level students, however, the difference was insignificant. 4. Most students in the experimental group are in favor of Multimedia-aided Learning. This method can help them easily catch on mathematic courses, express their view of mathematics and enhance the attitude of learning mathematics. In the end, according to the research results and analyses, the study provided suggestions for Multimedia-aided Instruction and further researches.
