This study used in-depth interviews and semi-structured questionnaire to interview 4 indigenous students in arts class of senior high school. During the research process, the researcher summarized the following conclusions according to the actual experiences and relevant data provided by students receiving the interviews. In addition to the support and encouragement of teachers and parents, the main reason why indigenous students chose to study in arts class of senior high school is their strong interest in arts. They wish to learn fundamental painting skills and application skills and multiple media, as well as adjust the heavy subject learning stress of senior high school. Encountering difficulties or problems in subject learning of senior high school will not defeat students’ confidence and lead to depression and avoidance of learning: in addition to the optimistic trait of indigenous peoples, indigenous students can transfer the emotions of failure frustration and invest more in arts performance, which indirectly becomes the power assisting in learning. In terms of the learning of technical subjects, after discovering problems, indigenous students can adjust speed, complete the expected progress, discuss with classmates, consult with teachers, and observe outstanding works to aggressively make improvements and progress. During learning process, in addition to cheerful personality and optimistic attitude towards everything, the strengths reflected by indigenous students also included sensitivity to the nature, understanding of cultural materials, and ability to depict image, which all were beneficial to their creation performance. In particular, they could better reflect their own unique style in a free space. The influence of training courses of arts class on the creation performance style of indigenous students was not significant: indigenous students’ directions of performance were not affected by the content of course training. The arrangement of these courses enabled students’ performance of use and skills of materials to achieve progress and maturity, as well as made them perceive the profound influence of mature drawing ability on their creation, design concepts that are beneficial to clarification of ideas, and highlight of stories and themes arranged in creation. Indigenous students affirmed that arts class of senior high school plays an important role of fundamental training on their road of arts learning. They wished to study arts-related departments for advanced study and continue improving their creation. According to the conclusions mentioned above, the researcher proposed comprehensive suggestions on arts class, in order to enable schools, course and teaching arrangements, roles played by parents, and future research directions to better understand the learning status of indigenous students and provide them with the best and the most appropriate assistance on the road of learning. |
