A Study on Primary Students' Attitude toward an English E-book Extensive Reading Program

Popis: | 105 This study investigated the sixth graders’ attitude toward the English e-book extensive reading program and the features of the program that might influence the students’ attitude. The students were 31 sixth graders in an elementary school in Taipei City. They took part in the program for a semester and read TumbleBooks in 15 forty-minute sessions. Right after reading e-books, the students kept reading logs on the class website. In the end of the program, the participants responded to the questionnaire. The results showed that the students’ attitude toward the English e-book extensive reading program was positive. According to the analysis of students’ reading logs, students’ responses to the questionnaire, and the teacher’s field notes, five features which made the students adopt positive attitude toward the program were the quantity of e-books, the learners’ autonomy, the effect of multimedia, the design of interface, and the opinion-sharing network. In the end, on the basis of the results of this study, the researcher proposed a process of establishing an English e-book extensive reading program and some suggestions for future research. |
