Pizzetti is one of the most important composers, musicologists, music critics and music teacher in twentieth century in Italy. He was committed to the revival of Italian early music. Pizzetti had a unique compositional style and a rigorous standard for selecting poems, making his work characteristic. The Italian folk literature being vigorous. Due to the activeness of Italian folk literature in Italy became more multivariant and closer to general public. Besides, the development of Italian art song not only enhanced the combination of drama and music, but also made the melodies more accessible to general public, thus providing the function of entertainment and relaxation. This thesis was aimed to gain a deeper understanding of Pizzetti and his work through the research of Pizzetti’s "Three Italian Folk Poetry". The thesis was divided into six chapters. The first chapter described motivation, purpose, field, and methods of the research. Chapter two introduced the life of the composer and the study of his music style as well as composition technique. Chapter three discussed the characteristics of Italian songs and their influence on "Three Italian Folk Poetry", demonstrating the status and value of art songs in history of music. Chapter four gave the Chinese translation of lyrics, which rendered readers better acquaintance with the poems and reasons to make interpretations. The last chapter is the conclusion of this study.
