The problems occurred to primary school teachers were the students who’re late for school or forgot to bring their school supplies. The students usually have their own excuses about the events happen in the class. Inevitably, the teachers had to deal with the quarrels constantly. The author implemented the “Foundations of Democracy Series: responsibility” in a 2nd grade classroom to teach the students what’s responsibility. Moreover, the students could decide whether they wanted to take a responsibility or not, the benefit and deficit of taking a responsibility. The class management of the research is divided into four aspects, teaching management, class norms management, class affairs management, class environment management, which were based on the “Foundations of Democracy Series: responsibility” published by American Citizen Education Center. In the class management, the author expected the students to understand the responsibility as a class member and practiced it in a real-life situation. Through the action research and the method of qualitative research, data was collected, sorted, explained and analyzed by the author. The data included the observation records, interviews with parents, critical friends, and the students, the reflective journals by the author, the students’ works and journals, etc. The study provides some conclusions as follows: The ‘role playing’ activity in “Responsibility “curriculum could help the students to discuss responsibility issues more in-depth. Classroom discussion could helped both the students and the teacher to understand one another’ view point and brought all of the participants into another level of perspectives that none had expected. It’s worthwhile teaching method to be adopted. The students were involved in the process of the class convention. Students were much willing to follow the rules, class autonomy is no longer a dream. After the implementation of “Responsibility” curriculum, the researcher had adjusted her teaching method thoroughly. She allowed more students’ inputs. She shared the class with all her students. She’s no longer need to control her class. She lets the students’ autonomy become possibility. Finally, the study provide some conclusions and suggestions for teachers and the educational authorities.
