This thesis is proposed an algorithm-based range extension system for electric vehicle, a technology for four-wheeled independent electric vehicle. Without any additional mechanism, it can achieves range extension according to conditions such as slope of road, acceleration and deceleration of driving condition. This research utilized the software of CarSim and MATLAB/Simulink to simulate the effects of range extension and this approach does not need any extra mechanism and hence is cost effective. It can reduce the cost of the development. In this thesis, CarSim is employed to construct a four-wheeled independent electric vehicle. MATLAB/Simulink is utilized to build the road slope and evaluation formula for calculating the torque distribution ratio on the energy consumption. It can be customized and adjusted according to the user's will. In addition, this approach can endow the whole system with a function of weight reduction. Consequently, the energy efficiency can be increased with a cost effective way. This novel range extension technology is feasible and useful to automotive engineering especially electric vehicles.
